Francisco Sá Carneiro airport
Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport is situated at Pedras Rubras, roughly 16 kms from the centre of Porto, The airport is serviced by Portugal's national airline, TAP, who fly to and from many destinations across Europe and the world for very reasonable prices. There are several other companies that fly to Porto. Porto Metro system has a very useful line (E, the purple one) that goes directly from the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport to the centre of Porto. Buy a Z4 ticket.

Transportation in Porto:
Transportation in Porto is somewhat well organized. Almost every public transports inside Porto metropolitan area work with the same ticket - the Andante. This includes the metro, bus, suburban train (only in certain stations), tram (the "eléctrico") and Guindais funicular railway.

Metro:
From the airport to the city centre:
Porto Metro system has a very useful line (E, the purple one) that goes directly from the Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport to the centre of Porto. Buy a Z4 ticket. The full trip in metro line E lasts 28 minutes and runs every 25 minutes.

Tickets:
Porto's metro work with rechargeable cards called "Andante". When you buy a single ticket and use it, keep the Andante card so as to charge it for the next trips. The following trips with be cheaper because you won't need to buy a new card.
First of all: ALWAYS validate your ticket. You have to validate before initiating a trip and when you change vehicles (changing metro line, changing from metro to bus, etc). When you end your trip you don't have to validate. There are validating spots upon entry in the platforms in the metro stations and inside the buses. The tickets must be validated in this yellow validating points.
There are tickets specially thought for tourists - the Andante Tour. There are 2 modalities: Andante Tour 1 (5,00€, valid for 24h, all zones) and Andante Tour 3 (11,00€, valid for 72h, all zones). During the 24h/72h period after the first validation, you can use it to travel without zone restrictions in all Porto Metropolitan Area.
